Our favorite spring walks

André Meravilles

1. The Devez waterfall

Spring is the ideal season to enjoy the waterfalls whose flow is substantial. From CurieresInter forest and paths around the pastures, make a bucolic break at the waterfall du Devez. You will come across small flowers everywhere on the way and a multitude of butterflies will follow you throughout your journey. Allow 3 hours for the long route with places to take breaks and admire the view. Perhaps you will have the chance to admire the cows very closely if they are in the summer pastures.

2. The oules waterfall

Short walk from the village of Laguiole, take a short break to listen to the sound of water near the waterfall. If you are lucky, you will observe carpets of flowers. A nice view of the village awaits you.

3. Valon, the Alcuejouls stream

The castle of Valon dominates your start. You will then see it from the opposite side, grandiose, protecting the village all in a strip, on its rocky ridge anchored to the Truyère gorges. You will enter a old chestnut forest, waking up from winter, others petrified, offering a small Brocéliande effect. You can end your 1h40 walk by going to demystify this castle open to the public.

7. The botanical trail

Departing from the Bouyssou ski resort in Laguiole, 9 km course (3 possible loops), discovering the rich flora of the Aubrac plateau, discover a peat bog equipped with an observation pontoon.

8. The Baltuergues loop

From Sainte-Geneviève-sur-Argence, stunning views on Cantal mountains, Truyère gorges and the Sarrans dam. Small paths, drailles and forest of douglas and birches will make you travel from one universe to another. During your walk you will discover the small heritage (bread oven, chapel, bridges, hamlets, crosses, churches…) while crossing forest and pasture. Along the way, don't miss the bird observatory.

9. The Bromme Valley

Going up an old glacial valley, now used by a stream sometimes impetuous (the Bromme), we walk in the heart of a landscape of middle Mountain. After 4 hours of walking, the arrival by a ridge will offer you a unique view of the medieval village of Mur-de-Barrez. Le prairie green is brilliant, and orchids, secretly nestled by the wayside offer you beautiful purple touches. Also watch for the jerky flight of the hoopoe, back from Africa for sunny days. It is recognizable by its crest and its long arched beak.
