The village of Valon, small in size but big in what it offers, is one of the unmissable spots in the Truyère gorges. Proudly perched on its rocky outcrop, spring is THE perfect time to come and discover this historic and natural nugget. Incredible views, a remarkable built heritage, a fantastic castle, you will understand, Valon has everything you need to seduce you.
Breathtaking Valon: Admire the Scenery
From its height of 550 meters, the village offers a remarkable view of the Truyère gorges. You will discover several points of view to enjoy the landscape or simply bring a small piece of the Carladez with you in your device. Admire the view from the village square and its belvedere or from the lower courtyard of the castle. Each stage of your ascent will offer you unique panoramas with breathtaking views: the meanders of the Truyère, the Saut du Chien waterfall, the Montézic hydroelectric plant or the very discreet Alcuéjouls stream. To prolong the adventure and get an overview, go to the belvedere in the village of Rouens or to the vertiginous Saut du Chien waterfall.

Our favorite ❤️: a 360° panorama
Take to the skies to reach the top of the castle keep and admire its incredible 360° view on a beautiful historical and sporting adventure. This is THE most popular landscape spot in the Truyère gorges.

Valon le picturesque: stroll through the village
The village will seduce you with its exceptional built heritage. Stroll down the only street and observe the remains of a time, not so long ago, when the inhabitants took advantage of the favorable climate, warm in the valley to produce fruit, wine and chestnuts. You will discover at the turn of a dry stone wall: the sécadou, the wheat threshing floor, the coltades or the traditional bread oven. A pretty row of stone houses, typical of the carladez with their slate roofs, awaits you there. Enough to rub shoulders, at your own pace, with a village with many secrets and traditions.

Our favorite ❤️: the flower season
Spring is a unique time to discover the village differently. Let yourself be guided by the valerian in bloom along the stone walls, the smell of lavender in the small garden next to the church or even that of the more discreet wallflowers. And if you look up to the sky, you may even be able to spot one of the emblematic birds of the Gorges de la Truyère.

Valon lefantastique: dare the adventure
Go through the doors of the castle and enter a universe made up of history and legends. Discover its chapel, its small kitchens or the unmissable lord's bedroom and let yourself be guided by the scenography which will tell you behind the scenes of life in the castle in the fourteenth century. An experience to live fully immersed in a charming medieval setting.

Our favorite ❤️: costumes available
The castle becomes yours for a visit: go to the gallery to put on the most beautiful costumes of princesses and knights and why not challenge your friends around a giant mikado or a game of molkky?

Authentic Valon: discover local life

In Valon, the adventure is lived out of time, without barrier nor border. The inhabitants are friendly and will enjoy chatting with you around a small garden. They will tell you about life in Valon, past and present, and will be delighted to share their tips and favourites. You can also enjoy the sun, comfortably seated on one of the 3 picnic tables in the village or simply on the schist stone benches. The followers of roadtrips in a converted van will also find a simple place where tranquility is essential and will certainly wake up in the early morning with images in their eyes and memories in their heads.
As you will have understood, Valon is a good place to live, conducive to disconnection and sharing.
To you “athletes” rest assured. You will also find what you are looking for with more “punchy” hikes.
Our favorite ❤️: a dog-friendly village!
Here the animals are kings, you may even come across Max, the village mascot tending a small herd of sheep, in the shade of the apple trees in blossom. No matter the size, your doggies are welcome in the village or on a visit to the Château where a bowl of fresh water will be waiting for them.
