Aubrac is known for its immense landscapes and unobstructed views, for its wild expanses and unspoiled nature. During the day, your eyes are amazed by this natural beauty, but it still holds many secrets for you. After dark, linger a little longer. When the night is here, raise your head, all the magic of our land will then be revealed to you. A clear sky, a mysterious place, a unique atmosphere to have your head in the stars and experience a moment that will remain etched in your memories.

The night is often scary. When the sun goes down, it's the time when we return to take shelter, in search of the comforting and reassuring light. For decades, the tales and legends of our countryside have been full of stories that take place in the dark: a moment full of mystery, conducive to extraordinary or distressing encounters. However, it is often when it is dark that we experience the most significant moments. We invite you to live a unique experience, the opportunity to awaken all your senses and feel Aubrac in the depths of your being, like no one else.

meeting the night on the Aubrac

We are used to straining our eyesight on a daily basis. When darkness arrives, we are much more vigilant of what surrounds us and our other senses take over. The experience you are about to live will awaken all your sleeping senses.

Little advice before you go :

  • Bring warm clothes, nights at altitude are often cool.
  • Bring a headlamp: even if you want to have as much darkness as possible to observe the stars, it will be useful for you to return to your vehicle.
  • Check the weather forecast at the last minute to ensure clear skies.

A perfect spot to observe the starry sky

To make the most of the night on set, go to a quiet place where you can rest for a few hours. We advise you to go to Puech du Roussillon, the summit of the Laguiole ski resort, culminating at 1 meters above sea level. Park in the station car park and take the track that goes up to the top. There, a magnificent view of the surroundings awaits you. It's the perfect place to have a picnic made from local products, while watching the sun go down.

Look up to the immensity

Aubrac has a very good night sky quality. Its wild side protects it from light pollution that prevents proper star gazing. Simply take the time to observe the stars, the constellations, the moon, to connect with the universe and what surrounds you. You will feel small in front of this immensity, but at the same time alive and belonging to the world.

Nature wakes up and reveals itself at night

At night our vision decreases, giving way to another sense: hearing. When you go out, listen carefully. You will hear the cry of a bird, the rustle of leaves in the trees, the screeching of the grass as a field mouse passes, the flapping of a bat's wings, the soft footsteps of a fox in hunting. You will hear the life of nature, without seeing it, you will know that it is there. The night is really essential to biodiversity. It is incomparably rich.

  • 70% of the fauna is active at night.
  • France has nearly 5 species of butterflies, of which 000 are nocturnal species.
  • Bats are the queens of the night: out of 35 protected species in France, 28 are present in Aubrac.

Feel what surrounds us

At night, the heat goes down and the smells are revealed. Your senses are no longer focused on the view, let yourself be carried away by the scents of the surrounding nature. You will be surprised at everything you can smell: the smell of damp or warm earth, grass, flowers, herds of Aubrac cows in the surrounding pastures.

Now is the time to go home. You have just experienced a unique moment of connection with nature, with the Earth, with the Universe. A moment out of time, which allows you to refocus on yourself, on your senses and your sensations. A magical moment of which Aubrac has the secret.
