Description

First step in roaming around the Monts d'Aubrac, this hike is a wonderful introduction to the landscapes of eastern Aubrac. From the Aumont-Aubrac basin, the route rises slowly towards the Aubrac plateau in a hilly atmosphere. Border the wooded areas of spruces, Scots pines and even birches while admiring the numerous views of the Margeride and its ocean of wooded hills.

Getting to the starting pointto report a problem

Step 1

From the war memorial at the corner of the D809 and the D987, follow the D987 (descends to the right) to leave Aumont-Aubrac. Pass under the railway line, leaving the GR®65 on the left. After 200m, turn right on the D50 for 100m. Turn left on the small road leading to Les Huttes, and pass under the highway. After 50m at the intersection, continue straight ahead on the initially paved road, quickly becoming gravelled. Continue the gentle climb straight for 3km, ignoring the paths to the left and to the right.

Step 2

At the intersection (mound of sand on the right), go left on a path that is flat at first then descends slightly to the Croix de Bastide. Take the uphill path opposite the cross, follow it straight downhill to the D987.

Step 3

Cross the departmental road to join the paved road. After 450m, at the level of the pilgrims' cross leave the GR®65 continuing on the road and take the dirt and gravel road on the left. Continue straight for 3km along the woods and agricultural plots, pass in front of the crosses of Conord and Odillon, ignoring the paths to the right and left.

Step 4

Take the departmental road (D53) to the right, cross it after 40m to continue straight ahead on a gravel track to the village of Soulages. Continue straight until Prinsuéjols (2,5 km) on the paved road.

Step 5

Facing the "Relais de Prinsuéjols", follow the road descending gently to the left. Ignore after 1km the road going up to the right to Bouchet and continue the descent until the intersection with the road going up to Trémouloux on the right. Go there to reach the village (500m), and cross it.

Step 6

At the "2011" cross, leave Trémouloux on the tarred path to the right for 200m then take the gravel path descending to the left. Go along the wood on your left to the pond, and take the small path along the dyke, which continues in the undergrowth for 400m. Finish the stage by taking the road going up slowly to the left to then descend to the Château de la Baume.
