In the heart of the Roquette Bonneval State Forest, a marked and equipped hiking trail to discover one of the most beautiful waterfalls in Aubrac, the 30 m high Devèz waterfall and a wolf pit.

In the national forest, a forest of beeches and conifers, the shaded walk will be appreciated! With a reward of size a very beautiful waterfall 30 m high which springs in the middle of basalt organs. The Devez waterfall is only accessible on foot and the beeches which surround it will be depending on the season: soft green to bright in spring or reddish orange in autumn. The discovery of a wolf pit on the route will stimulate the imagination, tales and legends. For this long version of the route, this will allow you to enjoy on a good part of the hike a panorama of the Aubrac plateau and its foothills to take your breath away! (There is a shorter version of this hike of 5 km, same starting and finishing point).

Getting to the starting point to report a problem

Step 1

The Departure is 6,6km from the village of Curières, on the D 164 towards Aubrac. After the small bridge, a large information panel on the right signals the start (parking). Take the dirt road to the left of this one (heart of the Aubrac State Forest). Go down this path, along the Dourtigouse stream on the right.

Step 2

At the crossroads, turn right and continue down this wide forest track.

Step 3

At this crossroads, a sign indicates, on the right, the direction of the “Devèz waterfall” and on the left, the “Fosse à Loup”. Round trip of 600 m: La Fosse à loup, turn left then right and left again to discover a wolf pit in perfect condition. After discovering the Fosse à Loup, retrace your steps along the small path taken on the outward journey. Note on the left the scree and large blocks of basalt which testify to the ancient volcanic activity and the ice age of the Aubrac plateau. Back at the crossroads, continue left towards the Cascade du Devèz. Continue down the path following the markings (leave the path on your right).

Step 4

Arrive at a square, at the crossroads of several forest paths. Cross the path, then descend towards the Cascade. Round trip of 400 m: The Cascade du Devèz, a small steep path with steps and ropes, will allow you to reach the waterfall in complete safety. Go up the small path to return to the crossroads on the forest square. Back at the crossroads on the small square, follow the "long circuit" sign, taking the left path. Observe a pretty little waterfall on the right. Continue straight, the path which climbs gradually in the Forest of La Roquette Bonneval.

Step 5

At the exit of the forest on your left, an old buron (the Cazals), bears witness to the agro-pastoralism of Aubrac. At the crossroads, continue to the right and enjoy the wide panorama. At 150 m, two benches are available to contemplate the landscape (views of the foothills of Aubrac, Lot valley and Causse Comtal). Continue the path which overlooks many hamlets (Condors, Le Duc, Le Cayrel), pass near the Everses barn (in ruins), view of Longueroque. Take the path that gradually climbs back into the forest.

Step 6

At the crossroads, go straight, cross the passage of man to cross a plot along the stony track. At the corner of the dry stone walls, turn left still in the meadow until the passage, then continue the path again in the forest.

Step 7

Reach the D 164 road, turn right and follow it on the side for about 1 km, picnic tables on your right, bog and butterworts to observe on the left of the road, crossing the small bridge over the stream de Dourtiguse, and arrive at the starting point.
