Description

Once the GR®65 has been taken backwards from Aubrac, this circuit then goes around the Puy de la Gudette volcano to embrace the Boralde de la Poujade covered in its beech forest. After that, the route takes summer pastures up to the keel of Goutals to finally reach the valley of the glacial melting pot where Saint-Urcize nests.

This hike can be done roaming between the three starting points of the Haut-plateau: Nasbinals / Aubrac / Saint-Urcize. Allow two to three days to cover the whole of Aubrac to the heart.

Your itinerary

Getting to the starting point to report a problem

Step 1

Start in front of the Maison de l'Aubrac. Take the path that skirts the remains of the abbey on the right.

Step 2

After crossing the departmental road D987, take the GR®65 for about 4 km to the foot of the Gudette pasture.

Step 3

Leave the path to Saint-Jacques-de-Compostelle which goes to the right towards Nasbinals and go up towards the D15 after crossing a small peat bog on logs.

Step 4

After passing through the metal gate at the edge of the Buron de Canuc car park, follow the RD15 road on the right for approximately 1,5 km, sometimes inside the coniferous wooded strip and sometimes on the embankment at the side of the road.

Step 5

200m after side point 1369, cross the ladder and follow the fence for approximately 400m. At the intersection with the stone walls, cross the pasture diagonally following the markers to the edge of the forest. Once you reach the forest, walk along it, following the wall to the ski lift.

Step 6

Cross the fence on the ladder and take the cross-country ski trail on the right which descends into the beech forest for about 2 km. On leaving the wood, take the wide path that descends towards the Hère stream.

Step 7

Cross the stream on a footbridge made of concrete posts. Follow the path to the entrance to the housing estate of wooden houses.

Step 8

Take the wide path on the right which goes down along the stream to the intersection with the D112. Once in the village, go up the street opposite to the fountain. Take the stairs on rue du Poustel on the left which go up to the church. Go back down to the right towards the old post office.
