Musée des cornemuses du monde

After having created in Vines "the house of Cabrette", the municipality of Canton (in North Aveyron, 20 minutes from Laguiole) has just implemented the latest developments linked to the expansion of this same museum space.

The ground floor of this extension is devoted to bagpipes. After having made an inventory to find out where the collections that the museums had organized around this same family of instruments were located, it turns out that:
Canton appears as the world capital of bagpipes.

This museum passes in front of that of New York, Brussels, Paris, The Hague, Glasgow, Montluçon, etc….
In the numerous showcases dedicated to France, Eastern Europe, Western Europe, the South of the Mediterranean and the Indo-Persian world, you can discover nearly 200 different bagpipes.

On this same floor, you will find educational and historical panels, the reconstruction of a 19th century cabrette maker's workshop and on numerous screens, you will be able to watch and listen to artists from this world of bagpipes. In addition, listening points will connect you to headsets which will be given to you at the entrance to the Museum of Bagpipes of the World.

The floor devotes part of its space to the history of the hurdy-gurdy and the violin, another part to the history of the accordion.
It is also on this floor that the temporary exhibitions will be presented to you.
The year 2023/2024 devotes its theme to the soundscape of a child from Aubrac.

Come and discover this unique museum in the world, with its collection of bagpipes from a large part of the world:
From Russia to Portugal
; from Sweden to Rajasthan via all the countries of Europe and the south of the Mediterranean.
