Outdoor activities for everyone

Saint-Amans-des-Côts, in the north of Aveyron, is ideally located to discover a multitude of landscapes, gorges, plateaus, valleys and to practice diversified outdoor activities.

Nautical activities

Hydroelectric production around the Truyère has changed the economic climate by creating dams, bodies of water and lakes important, thus promoting the development of tourism: establishment of campsites, practice of water sports, fishing.

The Lac de la Selve, despite its steep surroundings, hosts several leisure centers for practicing all kinds of water activities, from the most relaxing to the most sporty: swimming, fishing, pedal boats, dinghies, windsurfing, water skiing...

Fishing

In a setting of untamed beauty, fisherman will be happy: there are many second-category lakes and rivers where you can fish for pike, zander, trout, carp, tench, or first-category rivers and a large network of streams where wild trout reign supreme.

Le Selves lake, a 2nd category lake, with an area of 167 hectares, at the confluence of the Selves and the Selvet, is renowned for its carp and its populations of percids (perch and zander). Easily accessible at many points (forest track along the lake to the dam on the left bank), it is by boat that it will be the most pleasant to explore it.

The village of Saint-Amans-des-Côts

The village of Saint-Amans-des-Côts was largely destroyed in 1650 by fire, except for the church, hence the impression of a recent village. We do know, however, that already in 1318, the village of Saint-Amans had 245 fires, or about 1 inhabitants.

Altarpiece church of Saint-Amans-des-Côts

The church

Despite the apparent coherence presented by the construction techniques and the materials used in the church and in the attic, it was carried out different eras and following an identifiable chronology. A first part, Romanesque period, late XNUMXth century, a first expansion in Gothic style, early XNUMXth century, then extensions prior to the XNUMXth century and finally the church as we see it today, since the end of the XNUMXth century .

The altarpiece

The altarpiece was discovered by chance during the restoration of the church in 1996. It is a oil painting on wood large (278 x 350 cm approximately) dated 1626 and signed by Ludovicus Gomez. She presents the Rosary surrounded by mysteries. On the left, the five joyful mysteries (the Annunciation, the Visitation, the Adoration of the Shepherds, the Presentation of Jesus in the temple and Jesus among the doctors); below the five sorrowful mysteries (Christ on the Mount of Olives, the Flagellation, the Crowning with Thorns, the Carrying of the Cross and the Crucifixion); on the right the five Glorious Mysteries (the Resurrection, the Ascension, the Pentecost, the Assumption and the Coronation of the Virgin).

The Sacred Art Museum

It is located at the back of the church, in the private chapel of the Roquette family built in 1869 to complement the newly built sacristy. These two constructions had been made possible following the removal of the cemetery which surrounded the church.

This small museum presents sacred objects from the three steeples of the town: Saint-Amans-des-Côts, Saint-Juéry and Touluch.

The other riches of the village

Minér'Aubrac

In the village, a passionate couple created an amazing mineral collection, from the region (Viadène, Aubrac, Aveyron, etc.) and from all over the world. In their house, more than 1 pieces: quartz, fluorite, torbernite, calcite, aragonite, are classified by origin, in 500 showcases.
