On the borders of the departments of Aveyron and Cantal, between the Goul valley and the Truyère gorges, here is Carladez. Once a high place in northern Aveyron, the remains of the extraordinary feudal castle dominate the deep Truyère gorges by almost 300m, to which it controlled north-south access.
It is in this magnificent setting, but extreme due to the technical difficulties of its rugged route, that the hike and the “Les Cimes du château de Valon” hiking race take place.
