Vines is a lovely small stone village, located between the Truyère gorges and the Aubrac plateau. It consists of typical houses of the region, built in basalt. Most of them date from the XNUMXth century. The church overlooks the village. In the Gothic style chapel, you can admire its XNUMXth century reliquary, presenting fragments of the True Cross. From its forecourt, you will have a magnificent view of the Sarrans lake.
In Vines there is a underground quarry from which we extracted the Pierre deVines, a very fine volcanic stone, easy to carve when it was in the quarry, but hardens quickly in the open air. All the territory cross were carved with this stone. Its exploitation ceased in the XNUMXth century.

Vines is home to a nugget of the cultural and musical world : the World Bagpipes Museum. This two-storey exhibition space has the most complete collection of bagpipes in the world. More than 300 instruments, including accordions, hurdy-gurdies and violins, have been brought together to the delight of visitors. You can admire bagpipes from the four corners of the planet and let yourself be enchanted by the characteristic notes produced by these traditional instruments.
