Presentation
Starting point of the Sentier de l'imaginaire "Along the water", the garden of Brommat castle recounts the human and industrial epic that was the construction of the great dams of Truyère, Brommat and Sarrans from 1910 to 1934.
Take advantage of the pleasant castle garden to discover the open-air exhibition: the entire epic of the construction of the Brommat and Sarrans hydroelectric dams.
In 1934, the hydroelectric dam-factory of Sarrans was the largest construction site and the largest hydroelectric complex in Europe. It supplied 15% of the French population. Today, the Sarrans hydroelectric development is one of 15 EDF production sites that make up the Lot-Truyère hydroelectric chain.
A little history…
La Maison Forte: in the XNUMXth century, the Protestants seized the “fort” of Brommat. This is the first mention of this “castle”. It would in fact be a priory belonging to the abbey of Conques, erected in the XNUMXth century. In the XNUMXth century, the building threatened ruin. Louis XV authorizes the demolition of part of the priory on the condition of saving a building for housing the farmers and the harvest. It is this construction that can be seen today next to the church.
Information panels, outdoor theatre, water games, picnic tables and car park allow you to have a good time. The garden is accessible to people with reduced mobility.
