Offering a great alternative to its illustrious parents, the GR® 400 (Tour des Volcans du Cantal) and the GR® 65 (the Via Podensis), the GR® 465 offers a more intimate excursion to the heart of the Mounts of Cantal, to the Lot Valley. More than a hyphen between its two pilgrim paths, it will make you discover little secret countries, which are revealed as you descend on a side of the Plomb du Cantal.

A GR® in the footsteps of Cluniac sites

Created in 2017, the young age of this GR® benefits lovers of nature and tranquility. You will most often be the only ones to admire its riches: plateaus of summer pastures, cultivated terraces, chestnut groves, winding valleys. For lovers ofhistory and heritage, this ancient way will offer you a beautiful discovery of mountain villages with dark shades of basalt, protected from the still harsh winters by their heavy slate roofs, to gradually reach a more Occitan atmosphere down towards the Lot valley. Four Cluniac sites punctuate this discovery: the priory of Bredons, the church of Tausac, the discreet Chapel of Manhaval, then finally on arrival the abbey of Conques.

The route of the path

You can cover the 132 kilometers of the GR® 465 in 5 to 7 days, or more, by organizing your itinerary according to your desires and your abilities.

It has two variants after Murols (arriving on the Goul):

Murols

Last stage of your route in Carladez, this small isolated village announces the colors of your future descent towards the Lot valley, where the shale dominates. To leave, you will take the beginning of the Path of the Imagination of “Fire and Wind”, which saved this village from a hundred souls. The superb wrought iron sculptures, including Blaise the dragon, symbol of the Trails, attracted the ever-increasing number of curious people. On site you can find a café-restaurant.
